About 70 arrests have been made in the last 24 hours in New Caledonia, a French overseas territory where since Monday does not stop the violence in which four people died, including a gendarmerie.
This was announced this morning by the High Commission of the Republic in Noumea, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
Louis le Franc, High Commissioner of the Republic, praised in a press release “the commitment and professionalism of the police, which is the target of attacks: 64 gendarmerie and police were injured“ and “nearly 200 rebels have been arrested since Monday”. He also announced that an “air bridge between France and the territory would allow the rapid transport of military and internal security reinforcements”.
