Today, the Kremlin said that the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky is seeking greater Western involvement in the conflict, as Ukrainian forces at the front are in an extremely unfavorable situation, Reuters and BTA reported.
Zelensky told Reuters yesterday that he was pressing Western partners to get more directly involved in the war by helping to intercept Russian missiles in Ukrainian airspace. Another way the West can help Kiev is to allow Ukraine to use Western weapons against enemy military equipment massed near its border.
When asked about the interview with Reuters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov replied that some Ukrainian senior officials, including Zelensky, were “getting hysterical” in recent days. “This is due to the extremely unfavorable position of the forces of the Kyiv regime at the front,” said Peskov.
Putin's spokesman added that even if the West increased its military support, it would not change the general trend on the front where Russian troops are advancing. He criticized Ukraine for shelling civilian areas in Russia.
Last week, Vladimir Putin said Russian forces in northeastern Ukraine were creating a buffer zone to protect Russia from attacks, and said the West could not impose conditions on Moscow, Reuters recalled.
