Polish Defense Minister: No Conscription Plans in Poland - 1

In Poland, the idea of returning to conscription is not currently being considered. Defense Minister Władysław Kosniak-Kamis told the deputies that there is a strong interest among Poles to join the armed forces, which makes it unnecessary to consider mandatory enlistment, BTA reports.

As one of Ukraine's key allies in its defense against Russian invasion, Poland is not only supplying weapons, but is also focusing on strengthening its own military capabilities. With fears that Russia's aggression may not end with Ukraine, Warsaw is on a mission to significantly increase its arsenal and military personnel.

Polish Army Growth Plans

The goal is ambitious: to expand the Polish army to 300,000 soldiers in the near future. The army currently boasts about 198,000 members. This includes 140,000 professional soldiers and over 20,000 volunteers who have completed basic military training. In addition, 35,000 people are part of the Polish Voluntary Paramilitary Territorial Defense Forces.

It has been more than a decade since Poland abolished conscription in 2009. However, all eligible men must still register with the conscription board, ready to be called up if war breaks out.

Poland's defense strategy emphasizes voluntary service and a significant expansion of its military forces, reflecting the country's commitment to national security and support for Ukraine amid regional tensions.
