Iowa was hit by a tornado yesterday that claimed five lives and injured at least 35 people, AP and BTA report.
Greenfield, located about 90 km southwest of Des Moines, is home to 2,000 residents. The small town suffered significant damage. Homes were destroyed and vehicles crushed under the debris.
Not far from the city, the tornado was so powerful that it destroyed large wind turbines used to generate electricity.
The Iowa Department of Public Safety said four of the deaths were in the Greenfield area. Meanwhile, the Adams County Sheriff revealed that a woman lost her life when her car was swept away by the tornado about 25 miles from Greenfield.
