The joint closing statement of the Swiss summit will not include a demand for the withdrawal of the Russian troops, TASS and NHK report, quoted by News.bg. The reason is the position of several countries that highly value their ties with Russia.
The draft document will include only three of the ten initiatives from the peace proposal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The focus of the closing statement will be on ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants and strengthening food security. It will also address the release of prisoners and the return of children, a contentious issue as Russia faces abduction allegations that it has consistently denied. The document emphasizes the need for collective efforts by all nations to pave the way for peace, emphasizing the crucial role of Moscow's involvement in these discussions.
The lack of specific demands from Kiev in the document is attributed to the perspective of various developing countries in Asia and the Middle East. These countries prioritize their diplomatic and economic relations with Russia, influencing the outcome of the summit. President Zelensky seeks to ensure consensus among all present in Switzerland, aiming for a unified statement that reflects the collective commitment to peace.
Scheduled for June 15-16, the meeting will welcome representatives from 90 countries and international organizations.
