French President Emmanuel Macron has called on rival parties on both sides of the political center to join forces to him in creating a democratic alliance against the far-right "National Assembly" of Marine Le Pen in the upcoming early parliamentary elections, reports Reuters, quoted by News.bg.
In what has effectively become a campaign speech just days after the surprise timing of a parliamentary election, Macron admitted he had made mistakes, saying the French had expressed their outrage but felt unheard.
"Elections will bring clarity," Macron said. He urged "many of our compatriots and political leaders who do not recognize themselves in the extremist wave," to "build a new project... a coalition of government, a coalition of action in the service of the French and for the Republic."
Macron has promised to take tougher measures on migration, security and justice, arguing that the anti-Semitic far-left will be too "soft", while the extreme right will destroy the constitutional rule of law in France.
In a criticism of the leader of the conservative "Republicans" party, Macron condemned political deals in recent days, saying the "mask has fallen" by some parties seeking to form "unnatural alliances." The call of the leader of the Republicans, Eric Ciotti, for a union between the candidates of his party and the National Assembly in the early parliamentary elections caused a shock in the conservative party.
