Current Head of State wins majority of votes in National Assembly

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has been re-elected for a second term as president, winning a majority of votes in the National Assembly, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

Ramaposa received 283 votes to 44 for Julius Malema, leader of the opposition Economic Freedom Fighters party.

Earlier today, the Democratic Alliance party announced it would vote for Ramaphosa's candidacy as part of an agreement with the African National Congress to form a government of national unity, according to Reuters.
