Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed his close relative as deputy minister of defense , reported dariknews.bg.
The appointment comes after Putin last month removed his longtime defense minister, Sergei Shoigu, and replaced him with economist Andrey Belousov.
According to analysts, the reshuffles in the Russian defense ministry are dictated by the Kremlin's desire to strengthen control over the army's huge expenditures.
Among their deputies, he named Anna Tsivilyova, who is reported to be the daughter of his cousin, and Pavel Fradkov, the son of the former spy chief and prime minister.
In 2022, Great Britain imposed sanctions on Tsivilova, and the EU included her in the list of "close relatives" of Putin.
At the Department of Defense, she will oversee social security and benefits for soldiers.
Fradkov was a senior official in Putin's presidential administration and is the son of Mikhail Fradkov, who headed Russia's foreign intelligence service for nearly a decade and was one of Putin's prime ministers in the 2000s
Former Ministry of Finance official Leonid Gornin was also appointed First Deputy Minister of Defense.
