Billionaire Michael Bloomberg has provided nearly 20 million dollars to help Democratic President Joe Biden win re-election against Republican Donald Trump, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters, BTA reported.

Bloomberg's contributions include $19 million to an independent Biden support group known as Future Forward, or FF PAC, and more than $900,000 to the Biden Victory Fund, which is an alliance of the Biden campaign and the Democratic Party.

The donations were first reported in the "Washington Post".

Biden's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Bloomberg, the former New York mayor who spent $1 billion of his own money on an unsuccessful 2020 Democratic presidential primary campaign, has poured at least $100 million into helping Biden his campaign against Trump in Florida in 2020. Trump, who lost the 2020 race overall to Biden, won Florida by more than three percentage points, Reuters recalled.

Melinda French Gates first threw her support behind Biden, citing his support for reproductive rights among other issues, Reuters reported.

This year, Melinda Gates left the charitable foundation she founded with her ex-husband, the founder of "Microsoft" Bill Gates, with 12.5 billion dollars for his own charity work.

She said the contrast between Biden and former President Donald Trump, his Republican challenger in the Nov. 5 election, "couldn't be higher, and the stakes couldn't be higher.

"Women deserve a leader who cares about the issues they face and is committed to protecting their safety, health and economic power, their reproductive rights and their ability to participate freely and fully in a functioning democracy," she wrote she in the "X" social network.
