The Israeli Foreign Ministry said that as far as it is known, during during the attack in the synagogues in Derbent and Makhachkala, there were no worshipers and there is no information about victims among the Jewish community, reports News.bg.

The Israeli embassy in Moscow is in contact with the leaders of the Jewish community in Dagestan, the ministry added.

On the evening of June 23, churches and synagogues were attacked in Derbent and Makhachkala. In Derbent, terrorists cut the throat of Father Nikolay Kotelnikov, head of the Church of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The fighting in the two cities lasted several hours, and the total number of dead reached nine people, seven of whom were law enforcement officers.

The law enforcement authorities detained Magomed Omarov, head of the Sergokala region, and he is being interrogated by FSB officers, a source told RBC. His sons were among the attackers.
