An Israeli commission investigating suspected abuses in government purchases of submarines and missile boats from Germany said warning to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reports "Reuters", quoted by News.bg.
The commission notified Netanyahu that, based on the evidence gathered so far, it may ultimately find that he used his position as prime minister between 2009 and 2016 to approve the purchases without due process.
"In this way, Netanyahu has endangered the security of the state and harmed the foreign relations and economic interests of the State of Israel," the written decision of the commission states.
Netanyahu responded that the submarines are key to Israel's security "to ensure its existence against Iran, which is trying to destroy us".
"History will prove that Prime Minister Netanyahu was right on this issue as well and made the right decisions for Israel's security", his office points out.
The commission, established under the previous government in 2022, said it would soon release unclassified pieces of evidence gathered during the investigation into the deal worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Netanyahu has been in a difficult position since the October 7 attack by Hamas militants that killed 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages in Gaza. It was the worst attack on Jews since the Holocaust. In the subsequent Israeli assault on Gaza, over 37,000 people were killed.
