American political analysts expressed concern about the poor performance of President Joe Biden in the first debate with the Republican contender Donald Trump before the elections in November, in which the results of the two will be extremely close, DPA reported, BTA reported.
Speaking on CNN, which hosted the debate last night, several pundits criticized the 81-year-old Biden for vague statements and confusing behavior in the long-awaited showdown.
CNN political commentator Van Jones, a special adviser to former President Barack Obama, called Biden's performance “painful”.
"He's doing the best he can. But he had to face a test tonight to restore the confidence of the country and his (political) base. And he couldn't do it," Jones said.
CNN Chief National Correspondent John King opened the discussion after the debate by saying that there is now a “deep, broad and very persistent panic in the Democratic Party” after the “incompetent“ presentation of Biden. As a result, some people in the party were “holding talks” about possibly asking Biden to “step down”, King said.
