A 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Peru today, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) said. , quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
The quake was at a depth of 10 km, specified the German center, which initially set the magnitude at 6.4.
The US National Tsunami Warning Center said there was a tsunami threat from the earthquake, based on available data, revising its first message that there was no such threat.
Tsunami waves reaching up to 3 meters above the high tide level are possible along some parts of Peru's coast, the US Center said.
