Vladimir Putin's army has a huge problem and time is running against the Russian president, not in his favor. This was stated by military expert Markus Koip in an interview with FAZ.
Russia, which launched a full-scale war against Ukraine in 2022, has lost 3,000 tanks since the start of the invasion, according to data from satellite images. The capacity to build new tanks is a maximum of 500 per year.
And here comes the question of how Moscow covers the losses. The answer is simple: it takes out old tanks from Soviet times. But this creates a huge problem for the troops because the old equipment is more unreliable.
The speed and intensity needed to sustain the war in its current form are lacking. Time is running against Russia, is the conclusion of Markus Koip, who also says that there is a lot of corruption in the Russian armed forces.
The original Russian invasion army of 2022 is decimated in terms of material and personnel. Russia's war is “constant improvisation”. There are videos of Russian infantrymen advancing on motorcycles, quads and golf carts, without any armor. An army that does this has a problem, Markus Koip pointed out.
The military expert also said that in Germany, the Russian army is seen as large and powerful, with inexhaustible capabilities. “Then why didn’t Russia win the war?”, asks Koip. According to him, there is an idealistic view of Russia's power in Germany, which does not correspond to the truth. Russia as the country of infinite resources is just a myth.
