From today (June 29) until July 3, Bucharest is the center of discussions on the security of Europe, BTA reported. The Thirty-first Annual Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) opened today in the Romanian Parliament building, which is the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon.
“Two and a half years have passed since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Only a few hundred kilometers from where we are, Romanians hear the sound of conflict across the border. Russia's aggression against Ukraine brought the war back to the Old Continent. This is a reality that we must look at with realism and determination, with long-term thinking and appropriate actions,” said in his speech the President of the Senate (the upper house of the Romanian Parliament) and the President of the National Liberal Party Nicolae Chuca.
He informed the participants that the Romanian authorities have decided not to allow the participation of the delegations of the Russian Federation and Belarus in this session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
“Whoever actively and deliberately undermines security in Europe cannot claim to participate in this assembly. We cannot accept that someone abuses the principles and rules of this Organization while grossly violating them, Chuka emphasized and added:
„We must help Ukraine now with everything we can, not only to defend itself, but also to win the war”.
According to him, any hesitation in actions towards Ukraine will deepen the threat in the Black Sea region with serious consequences for security, economy and society for the entire continent. In the context of the conflict in Ukraine, Chuka again emphasized the importance of strengthening international support for the Republic of Moldova.
