"I was shot with a bullet that went through the top of my right ear," wrote Donald Trump in his social network "Truth Social" after a shooting incident earlier today (US time) at a rally in the state of Pennsylvania, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
There was a lot of blood and I realized what was happening, Trump said, quoted by Reuters.
He was quickly escorted from the rally scene by Secret Service agents.
The shooting is being investigated as an assassination attempt against the former president, law enforcement officials said, as cited by the Associated Press.
The Secret Service reported that the shooter was in a high position outside the agency's perimeter. He was killed by agents of the service.
One person who attended the rally was killed and two others were injured and are in critical condition, Reuters reported, citing the Secret Service.
Donald Trump is safe, measures are in place to protect the US Republican presidential candidate.
In a message on the “X“ The Secret Service informs that it is conducting an active investigation.
A statement from Trump's campaign headquarters said he was fine after being rushed off the stage at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
"President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their swift actions during this heinous act," spokesman Stephen Chung said in a statement. "He is doing well and is currently being evaluated at a local medical facility. More details will be provided later".
The former president and presumptive Republican nominee was displaying a graph of the number of people crossing the border during the rally when the crowd began to crash. Trump was seen raising his right hand to his neck. It looked like there was blood on his face, AP reports.
He quickly hid as his security agents stormed the stage, and screams could be heard in the crowd. The shaking continued as agents kept him on the scene.
The crowd cheered as Trump stood up and pumped his fist. After that, his motorcade left the venue.
Police began clearing the fairgrounds shortly after Trump left the stage. Local police said it was a crime scene.
House Speaker Mike Johnson wrote in “X“ that he is praying for Trump.
