Large tank losses during the Ukrainian conflict call into question the expediency of AbramsX hybrid tank development for the US military, despite the continued relevance of the use of tanks on the battlefield. This opinion was expressed by Maya Carlin, an analyst at the US Center for Security Policy, in an article in The National Interest magazine.
The expert believes that the batteries with which the tank will work will be too bulky and explosive. According to Carlin, this would make AbramsX extremely vulnerable. “Increasing tank losses in Ukraine on both sides show that even the most advanced MBTs are having difficulty resisting the anti-tank weapons currently in use,”, she stressed, commenting on the survival prospects of the new model on the battlefield.
„Regardless of how the AbramsX performs compared to competing models, the Army probably won't be able to justify pouring that much money into a military system for a tank that can be so easily destroyed in battle,” Carlin concluded.
