Former US President Donald Trump arrived in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention - the day after by becoming the target of an assassination attempt at a pre-election rally, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.
Trump arrived for the four-day forum where thousands of Republicans gather to officially choose him as their candidate for the presidential election in November.
The dramatic turn of events at his campaign rally on Saturday, when he narrowly escaped with only a wound to his right ear, killing one spectator and wounding two others, marred the normally festive atmosphere of the convention. The attack on Trump focused attention on the event's safety and security measures.
The former president said in a post on social media that he initially planned to postpone his trip by two days because of the assassination attempt. "However, I have just decided that I cannot allow a "shooter" or a potential killer to force a schedule change or something," he wrote.
Trump is expected to address Congress late Thursday night.
Secret Service is "completely ready" to guarantee security during the National Congress of the Republican Party, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
"We are fully prepared, we have a comprehensive security plan and we are ready to execute it," Gibson-Cicchino said.
The FBI - the lead intelligence agency for the Milwaukee convention - in turn said it had not identified "specific and clearly articulated threats" against the Congress or any of its attendees.
In a statement, the Trump campaign and the Republican National Convention said that the former president is looking forward to participating in the forum, where he should be officially nominated as a candidate for the presidential election in November.
