The alleged shooter at Donald Trump's rally yesterday acted alone and used a legally purchased semi-automatic rifle AR in the shooting of the former US president, FBI officials said, quoted by Reuters, quoted by BTA.

"At this stage, the information we have indicates that the shooter acted alone," Kevin Rojek of the FBI in Pennsylvania said at a press briefing, as quoted by AFP.

FBI officials said they had no evidence that the man had any mental health problems and that they were investigating the hypothesis of a "potential act of domestic terrorism.

"We are investigating an attempted murder, but we are also looking at it as a potential act of domestic terrorism," said another FBI official, Bobby Wells.

At the briefing, the FBI representatives noted that the investigation is at an early stage and that they have not yet established a link between the suspect and any ideology. They emphasized that establishing the motive for the shooting is one of their priorities.

Seventy-eight-year-old Trump was wounded in the ear in a shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The shooter fired several shots, in which one of the participants of the rally was killed, and two more people were seriously injured.

The FBI has already announced that it was an attempted murder and has identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, who was shot.
