A photo of former President Donald Trump's bloodied face was placed as the main image on his website this morning to encourage his supporters to donate to his campaign and come together in a spirit of unity and peace after the shooting over the weekend, Reuters reported, citing BTA.
The site redirects donors to the page of the fundraising platform “WinRed” (WinRed), which also has the so-called “iconic“ black and white photo of Trump taken by an Associated Press photographer.
It shows the Republican presidential nominee's face streaked with blood and his fist raised after the shooting, in which a bullet pierced the top of his right ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. Inscribed on the image are the words “FEARLESS“ (FEAR NOT) in capital letters.
The message reads: "Unity. Peace Making America Great Again." Trump's signature was also placed on the page, and users were offered various donation options.
In an interview published late last night in the “New York Post”, the former president spoke about the photos taken immediately after he was shot, including the image posted on his website.
„A lot of people say this is the most iconic photo they've ever seen,” Trump was quoted as saying to the “New York Post”. “They are right, but I am not dead. "Usually you have to die to get an iconic photo," he added.
Trump, who is running against Democratic President Joe Biden in November's presidential election, was shot by a 20-year-old man with a semi-automatic rifle on Saturday during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, authorities said.
One of the former president's supporters who attended the rally was killed and two were injured. Security guards also killed the alleged shooter. The FBI said it is investigating the shooting as attempted murder.
Leaders from both the Republican and Democratic parties, including Trump and Biden, urged people in the deeply divided country to unite and remain calm after the shooting.
A Trump-backed campaign on the platform “GoFundMe“ (GoFundMe) for the victims of the rally shooting had raised over $3.5 million by the end of yesterday.
