Two foreigners were sentenced to eight years in prison for providing Russia with information about the location of Ukrainian defenders and air defense systems in Odessa, News.bg quoted.

This was announced by the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office on "Facebook", quoted by "Ukrinform".

According to the SBU of Ukraine, the convicts are citizens of a country from the South Caucasus.

Foreign citizens were found guilty of unregulated dissemination of information about the location of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (Article 114-2, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The prosecutor's office proved in court that at the end of February 2024, two brothers temporarily living in Odessa entered into a conspiracy with an employee of the Russian Federal Security Service.

"They agreed to carry out the task of carrying out subversive activity against Ukraine. They even wrote and sent requests to the curator to join the ranks of the FSB. The convicts scouted the places of the greatest concentration of personnel and military equipment of units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in Odessa," the press service reported.

The two also handed over the geolocation of Ukrainian air defense systems to the Russian security agency.

According to the SBU, in the future they hoped to create their own network of informants, which they planned to recruit under the guise of a public organization.

According to the prosecutors, for each successfully completed task from Russia they received a monetary reward from the curators. The amount of the reward depended on the importance of the object and the difficulty of gathering information about it.

"As a reward for their "services", the two brothers hoped to receive "positions" in the case of the occupation of Odessa: one wanted to become the head of the regional branch of the FSB, and the other wanted to head the city council," the report said.

Law enforcement officers detained the men in March 2024, when they were carrying out another hostile mission. A phone was seized on the spot, which the accused used only to communicate with the FSB.
