Ukraine's signal for talks with Moscow is in line with Russia's position, but more details are needed, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a statement, quoted by Reuters.
Earlier today, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said he was ready for “well-intentioned“ peace talks with Russia, although Moscow does not give such a signal.
„The message itself can be said to be in tune with our position,”, Peskov told reporters, but specified that the details should be clarified. “You know that the Russian side has never refused to negotiate, it has always remained open to a negotiation process, but the details are important,”, he added.
In February, Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine while freezing current positions was rejected by the US, after contact between the two countries through intermediaries.
Putin is ready to end the war in Ukraine with an agreed ceasefire, but is ready to continue fighting if Kiev and the West do not respond, Reuters reported in May.
In June, the Russian president indicated that Russia would end the war only on the condition that Kiev abandon its NATO membership ambitions and hand over full control of four Ukrainian regions claimed by Moscow, but Ukrainian authorities have rejected the proposal, calling it tantamount to capitulation.
