< German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius arrived today in the American state of Hawaii, from where he will begin his several-day visit to the Indo-Pacific region, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Pistorius and his delegation landed in Honolulu, where German naval forces are taking part in the US-led Pacific Horizon naval exercise. (Rim of the Pacific - RIMPAC).
In 2020, the German cabinet set guidelines for the country's policy in the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing its central importance for the global and German economy and outlining the associated risks, DPA notes.
Germany is seeking to strengthen its cooperation with political partners in the region, especially due to the concerns of smaller countries about the dominant role of China.
The RIMPAC naval exercise, which takes place every two years under the leadership of the US Navy, involves 29 countries, including France and Britain, as well as about 40 ships, aircraft and helicopters.
Germany participated for the first time with a frigate and a task force supply ship, DPA notes.
