North Korean leader Kim Jong-un attended a ceremony in Pyongyang to hand over 250 launchers for new ballistic missiles to border units. This was reported by the Korean Central Telegraph Agency (KCTAK). It is not specified which models of rockets will be launched from the installations, quoted by News.bg.

Ahead of the ceremony, Kim Jong-un inspected the launchers, which are being "commissioned as a new key offensive weapon of the DPRK armed forces," and then ordered that they be handed over to border units.

Kim Jong-un called the new equipment "another step to give great vitality to the name and national flag of the DPRK and to sharply increase the national prestige of the DPRK, which will demonstrate power as a strong sword to protect national sovereignty and preservation of peace".

Since the beginning of the year, North Korea has conducted a number of ballistic missile tests. Some of them, such as the launch of the Hwasongpho-16B solid-fuel ballistic missile; with a planned hypersonic warhead in April, were controlled by Kim Jong-un. In early July, North Korea's General Directorate of Missile Science conducted a successful test of the new Hwasong-11da-4.5 tactical ballistic missile. The new missile has an ultra-large warhead weighing 4.5 tons. The maximum range of the missile is 500 km.
