Failure of the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region, where it launched a surprise invasion last week, could lead to Kiev's capitulation. This is what the German professor Carlo Massala told BILD.

„We are now experiencing tremendous changes in warfare. The Ukrainians conquered more territory in Russia in six days than the Russian Federation conquered in Ukraine in the last 2-3 months. This is an impressive achievement”, said the political scientist.

At the same time, the expert does not think that Vladimir Putin's position is in danger. Responsibility for the failure will be transferred to local authorities or the military, and Putin will continue to sit quietly in the Kremlin.

Carlo Massala warns that if the Ukrainian army is defeated in the Kursk region, it will have a severe impact on the front line in Donbas, where the Russians outnumber the ZSU in military equipment and manpower. Ultimately, this will lead to the capitulation of Ukraine, Masala warns.

He believes that the best-case scenario is for the operation in the Kursk region to last as long as possible “so that Putin's power circles understand that the continuation of the war could have negative consequences for internal Russian stability” and deprive the dictator of support. “This is the only strategy to end this war without Ukraine capitulating,” Masala said.

According to Forbes, around 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers are currently fighting in Kursk Oblast, with Kiev having sent its elite brigades there. This shows that this is a well thought out invasion. Against this background, Ukrainian and Western media write that Volodymyr Zelensky did not warn his NATO partners about the planned invasion. The US also announced that it was unaware of Kiev's plans.
