The Ukrainian Parliament ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court - 1

The Ukrainian Parliament adopted a law on the ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.

Yaroslav Zheleznyak, deputy from the "Voice" party, announced in the "Telegram" application that the law on ratification was adopted with 281 votes "for".

The purpose of the measure is to implement internal procedures to allow the Rome Statute of the ICC to enter into force in Ukraine.

The ratification document stipulates that Ukraine will not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC for war crimes for seven years if the matter concerns Ukrainian citizens.

The Rome Statute will enter into force for Ukraine on the first day of the month following the 60th day from the date of deposit of the instrument of ratification with the UN Secretary General.

After the entry into force of the law and the Rome Statute, Ukraine will acquire full membership of the ICC and will be able to participate in the Assembly of States Parties to the ICC, shape the policy of the ICC, nominate its candidate for judge, approve the allocation of the ICC budget to ensure a proper investigation of Russian crimes in Ukraine, to participate in the elections of judges and other elected officials (in particular the Prosecutor of the ICC), and to influence the development of changes to the Rome Statute.< /p>

The adoption of the law is expected to ensure the necessary level of implementation of the provisions of the Rome Statute of the ICC on the prosecution of international crimes (crimes such as genocide, aggression, crimes against humanity and war crimes), as well as to ensure the prevention of legal and the de facto impunity for committing such crimes.
