President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced today that he visited a border region in the northeastern part of the country, from where the Ukrainian armed forces conducted a limited military operation in Russia's Kursk region. He also announced that Ukrainian forces had established control over another Russian village, Reuters reported, as quoted by BTA.
The Ukrainian president said that he met with the commander-in-chief of the armed forces Oleksandr Sirsky during his visit to the Sumy region.
"In some areas of the Kursk region, another settlement came under the control of Ukraine, and we have new prisoners of war who can be exchanged for our people," Zelensky said, referring to the capture of Russian soldiers.
The Ukrainian president released a video showing him shaking hands and hugging Sirsky. The operation in the Kursk region has significantly boosted the morale of the Ukrainian military after months of slow but methodical Russian gains in eastern Ukraine, according to Reuters.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said his country would give a "worthy response" of the invasion, which he described as a serious provocation.
