The head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns spoke today with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, reported Radio Free Europe and the Kosovo publication "Koha ditore", quoted by BTA.

A day earlier, Burns met in Pristina with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and the head of the Kosovo Intelligence Agency, Petrit Ayeti.

There were no announcements or statements after the meetings.

Kurti was in the US this week, attending the Democratic National Convention at the invitation of the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

This week Burns visited Bosnia and Serbia.

In Sarajevo on August 20, he met with the Director of the Intelligence and Security Agency of Bosnia, Almir Džuvo, Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković and the three members of the country's multi-ethnic presidency.

A US government official, speaking on condition of anonymity, earlier told RFE/RL that the reason for the CIA chief's visit to Sarajevo was, among other things, the troubling separatist rhetoric and actions of Milorad Dodik, the pro-Russian president of Republika Srpska - a part of Bosnia where mostly Bosnian Serbs live.

No one in Serbia denied or confirmed Burns' visit.

The Serbian edition “Danas“ wrote that sources close to the Serbian government confirmed Burns' visit to Belgrade, where he was hosted by the Serbian intelligence agency.

Burns' visit to Kosovo comes amid statements by the US ambassador to Pristina, Jeffrey Hovenier, that his country has had challenges on several fronts with the Kosovo government led by Albin Kurti.

The US and other countries in the international community criticized some decisions and actions taken recently by the Kurti government, which were described as “unilateral“ and “uncoordinated“.
