Australian police said today that four people, including a law enforcement officer, were injured in a stabbing attack melee weapon in Sydney – the last of the series of attacks in the city of a similar type since the beginning of the year, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
„There is definitely an incident in the Engadin,”, a police spokesman said, referring to a southern suburb of the city.
Police said they do not believe there were any casualties in the attack.
They indicated from there that a man who tried to run away from the crime scene was stunned with an electric shock and detained by law enforcement.
According to New South Wales Home Affairs Minister Yasmin Catley, there is currently no danger to Sydney residents.
Sydney has seen a sharp rise in knife attacks this year, prompting the government of the Australian state of New South Wales to tighten its cold-arms laws. In June, the state legislature passed a law that gives police metal detectors to search people unannounced at shopping malls, at sporting events and at public transport stops.
In April, six people were killed and 12 injured in a knife attack at a shopping center in Sydney.
