The life of the seriously injured in the attack with a knife in Solingen is now out of danger, DPA reported, referring to medics, BTA reported.

"All four patients who are still being treated are out of danger," told "Welt Te Fau" the director of the hospital in Solingen, Thomas Standel.

The remaining injured patients were admitted to hospitals in the cities of Wuppertal and Remscheid. Two of those in Solingen did not require intensive care, but one of the other two had to be put on artificial respiration for several hours, Standel said. The injured man's condition quickly stabilized and he was able to answer questions related to the attack.

"The patient told me that he didn't actually feel any pain, but he was bending over to help a woman who was bleeding from a neck wound and then he felt something like a dull blow to his back,'' he said. Standel. It was apparently a deep stabbing, affecting a large vein in the chest. At such moments, the body releases so much adrenaline that a person may feel neither pain nor fear of death, said Standel.

If there are no unforeseen incidents, such as wound infections, the physical effects of the attack are manageable, he said. "All four patients have a very good chance of a full recovery," the doctor concluded.

The psychological consequences, on the other hand, cannot yet be predicted, DPA notes. Professional counselors and psychologists were available in the intensive care unit at night.
