The company that owns the mobile application "Telegram" stated that its director, billionaire with French and Russian citizenship Pavel Durov, "has nothing to hide". The announcement was made after Durov was arrested on Saturday in France for violations committed by the chat platform, AFP reported, quoted by BTA.
"Telegram" complies with European legislation, including the Digital Services Regulation. Its content moderation actions are within industry norms," the Dubai-based company wrote on its own Telegram channel.
"Pavel Durov has nothing to hide. He travels frequently in Europe," the company said, adding that it is absurd to hold him responsible for abuses.
Durov was detained at Bourges airport outside Paris. According to the initial data, the reason for his arrest was insufficient moderation of the content in "Telegram". Local media reports that because of this, charges related to terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud and child pornography may be brought against him.
