Iran does not seek to increase the degree of tension in the Middle East. This was stated by Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi in a conversation with his Italian colleague Antonio Tajani, Reuters reported. However, the minister emphasized that Iran's response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in Tehran will be firm and measured, quoted by News.bg.
Iran blames Israel for killing the Haniya leader on July 31. Arakchi called this act “ an unforgivable violation of Iran’s security and sovereignty”. Israel has neither claimed responsibility nor denied being behind the killing of the Hamas leader.
The Iranian foreign minister assured that Tehran does not want to escalate tensions in the region, but added that Iran is not afraid of it.
