US President Joe Biden spoke by phone with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two discussed Modi's recent visit to Ukraine, as well as the situation in Bangladesh, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Last week, Modi made a historic visit, the first by an Indian prime minister to the former Soviet republic. India has traditionally maintained close relations with Russia and did not condemn its invasion of Ukraine, but declared itself a peaceful solution to the conflict.
Modi announced that he discussed the situation in Ukraine with Biden yesterday and confirmed India's "full support for the speedy restoration of peace and stability".
In a statement, the White House welcomed the Indian Prime Minister's tour of the Russian-attacked country and neighboring Poland. Both leaders expressed "support for the peaceful resolution of the conflict in accordance with international law, based on the UN Charter," the text noted.
Modi and Biden also discussed the situation in Bangladesh, where longtime Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign and go abroad earlier this month after protests left hundreds dead.
According to the Indian Prime Minister, the two with the American President emphasized "the need to quickly normalize the situation and ensure the safety and security of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh.
The Hindu minority in India's neighboring Muslim-majority country has come under attack during the unrest, which has worried Modi.
