Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is expected to arrive today on a visit to Turkey, CNN-Turk Turkish TV reported, quoted by BTA.

A number of issues are planned to be discussed during the visit, including trade relations between the two countries, as well as the situation in the Gaza Strip.

A meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council between Turkey and Egypt is planned, in which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will participate together with his Egyptian counterpart in Ankara. Around 20 cooperation agreements in the fields of defense, energy, tourism, healthcare, education and culture are expected to be signed during the meeting.

With the signing of these agreements, the aim is to increase trade between Turkey and Egypt from 10 billion dollars to 15 billion dollars.

In energy, it is planned to strengthen cooperation in nuclear and renewable energy, as well as in liquefied natural gas.

The visit of the Egyptian head of state comes after the visit in February of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Egypt – the first visit in twelve years to focus on the situation in Gaza. Ankara is determined to increase contacts with Cairo in the name of peace efforts in the Strip.

Relations between Ankara and Cairo became strained after Sisi, then army chief, ousted then-President Mohamed Morsi from the Muslim Brotherhood, who was an Erdogan ally, in 2013.
