According to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the quake had an epicenter nine kilometers northeast of Malmberget, Gelivare municipality, and 324 kilometers northwest of the Finnish city of Oulu. The earthquake was at a very shallow depth, marked as zero kilometers.
