The operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Kursk region presented the Russians with a dilemma and directly affected their plans for the Donetsk region. Confidence in this was expressed by the head of the Council of Reservists of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Ivan Tymochko, in a comment on the RBC-Ukraine channel on YouTube, reports FOCUS.

He recalled that now there is a struggle between Ukraine and Russia to master the operational-strategic initiative. The main political target for Moscow's forces is the Donetsk region, Tymochko assured.

"For us, the question is not about political goals, but about liberating our own territory, and the military operation that we are conducting in the Kursk region is an operation to force the enemy to use forces and means there that could be directed against the Ukrainian army in the Donetsk region”, Tymochko explained.

According to him, the interim results show that neither side will stop their actions. And here the situation will depend on how each country can accumulate forces and funds.

Timochko believes that the Russians now face a dilemma. Because if now they seriously strengthen the Kursk direction, using for this soldiers from the Donetsk direction, then it will be a collapse of the political goal of occupying the latter.

"But if the enemy ignores the situation in the Kursk Region, then there can be no talk of the so-called "liberation" in the Donetsk region. I.e. the Russians are facing a dilemma”, he summarized.

Timochko added that, at the same time, the ASU has room for maneuver. Because if he has to retreat in the Donetsk region, they will retreat in front of large forces of the enemy. But on the other hand, even if the Ukrainian forces leave the Kursk region, it will be perceived with understanding.

"That is, somewhere they themselves were caught is the trap of their own information campaign. How will they try to resolve the situation by military means? Now we can only speculate. But everything will again depend on a number of factors”, he added.

According to Tymochko, the first factor is how successfully Ukraine will be able to destroy Russian arsenals. The second is how successfully the VSU will continue to destroy the industries that form the budget of the Russian Federation. And the third is whether Russia will dare to conduct a general mobilization of the population and the economy.
