German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock called on Israel and the Lebanese group “Hezbollah” to agree to the proposal for an immediate 21-day ceasefire, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
„A broader regional escalation will not bring anyone long-term security”, the minister said before the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Berbock expressed disappointment at the lack of progress, but stressed that “we are not giving up on seeking a political vision for Israelis and Palestinians to live peacefully side by side in two separate states”.
In addition, she called on the General Assembly to elect the first female Secretary-General in the history of the United Nations.
„In its entire 80-year history, this organization has never had a woman secretary-general,”, Berbock said, adding: “The next UN secretary-general must be a woman”.
