Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived today in the Lebanese capital Beirut, reports the agencies Agence France Presse and Reuters. This is the first visit of a high-ranking Iranian representative to Lebanon since the assassination of the leader of the Shiite group "Hezbollah" Hassan Nasrallah on September 27, used in an Israeli strike in Beirut, quoted by BTA.
Araghchi's visit coincides with the intensification of Israeli airstrikes against positions of "Hezbollah" in Lebanon. Hours before his arrival, Israeli attacks hit areas around Beirut's international airport.
Aragchi is expected to hold meetings with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who is a close ally of Iran-backed Hezbollah.
