Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev once again drew an apocalyptic scenario. He explained that in the event of an attack by a NATO member country, it will be completely destroyed and in this case the alliance will no longer be valid.
Medvedev's threat was directed at Estonia after the Baltic country announced it was ready to attack Russia first if necessary, News.de reported.
Putin's friend Medvedev reacted immediately and explained in his latest interview that in such a scenario Article Five of the Washington Treaty could be triggered, but the country (Estonia) would no longer exist.
Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO Treaty) states that an armed attack against one NATO member country is considered an attack against all member countries. In such case, the other members undertake to support the attacked party, including the use of military means, if necessary, to restore security on the territory of the Alliance.
Medvedev has become a Russian hardliner since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin's confidant and former Russian president has repeatedly threatened Western countries with nuclear strikes if they continue to provide military support to Ukraine or attack Russia. To this end, the current deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council often uses sharp and provocative rhetoric.
