Russia: Kiev continues to play with fire - 1

The Kremlin said today that Ukrainian authorities were playing with fire, a day after the Russian armed forces said yesterday that they had intercepted a Ukrainian drone near to the nuclear power plant plant in the Kursk region, Reuters reported.

A number of Russian media reported yesterday that a fire broke out a few kilometers from the facility.

"Kiev continues to play with fire and we will, of course, draw the attention of the representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Giorgi Tihi denied that Ukraine had fired a weapon or carried out a drone strike at or near the Kursk NPP.

Ukrainian forces crossed the border into Russia's Kursk region in the early hours of August 6 and remain there, despite the Russian army trying to push them out, Reuters notes.

Yesterday, TASS reported that Russian means of radio-electronic warfare shot down a Ukrainian drone over the city of Kurchatov near the Kursk NPP.

The governor of the Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, reported in "Telegram" that the downed drone fell on a nearby building, which, however, has nothing to do with the nuclear power plant. Emergency service teams continue to work on site, he added.
