This opinion was expressed by Israeli President Isaac Herzog in a video address to Jewish communities around the world dedicated to the first anniversary of the October attack.
„In many ways, we are still living through the aftermath of the events of October 7. They are everywhere in our country. This includes anti-Semitism, which has spread greatly around the world in light of the war against Hamas. It is also the continuing threat to the Jewish state from Iran and its terrorist satellites, who are blinded by hatred and seek to destroy our one and only Jewish nation-state,” said Herzog, a transcript of whose speech was released by the president's office.< /p>
According to him, we are talking about the “palpable fear and anxiety about the future” that Israelis feel. “All this is still in our country”, the head of state is confident.
The situation in the Middle East deteriorated sharply after the infiltration of armed supporters of the Palestinian radical movement Hamas from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, which was accompanied by the killing of residents of border villages and the taking of more of 240 hostages. In response, Israel launched a military operation in the enclave with the aim of destroying the military-political structure of Hamas and freeing all the abductees. Fighting in the Gaza Strip continues to this day.
