Turkish radio lost its license after using the term Armenian Genocide - 1

The Turkish media regulator has revoked the license of a Turkish radio station because of the use of the term "Armenian genocide", reported the Turkish website T24, quoted by BTA.

Before taking the measure, the Supreme Council for Radio and Television (RTÜK) ordered the broadcast of the program, in which the term "Armenian genocide" has been used. Due to non-compliance with this decision, however, the regulator has decided to revoke the media's broadcasting license.

Radio "Achuck" has been working for thirty years in Turkey.

The radio station appealed to an administrative court in Ankara against the decision to stop broadcasting and impose a financial fine, and the court initially ordered that the implementation of this decision be suspended. The media regulator appealed the court decision, but its appeal was rejected, and the radio station announced it was continuing to broadcast.

In September of this year, however, radio "Acak" reported that it had been notified that the same court had this time decided to "deny the request for a stay of execution" of the regulator's decision.

The radio informed on social networks today that its broadcast will be interrupted from 13:00. At 5:30 p.m. in front of the radio station, a statement will be made on the subject, T24 points out.

Turkey does not accept the definition of "genocide" about the events in the Ottoman Empire during the First World War. According to historians, around 1.5 million Armenians fell victim to systematic killings in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. As its successor, Turkey disputes the death toll and denies that the killings were systematic and constituted genocide.
