„Donald Trump is not saying what the policy will be regarding the war in Ukraine. There are disturbing statements that he will decide the war within a few days, but he does not say how. I think that the strategic interest of the USA is to stop Russia,”, he said in the program “This Morning” former foreign minister and ambassador to Turkey Nadezhda Neynski. According to her, this is how the USA would maintain its leadership position in the world.
According to her, formally speaking, Russia will be more happy if Trump wins, but on the other hand, there is concern about his unpredictability.
She recalled that whichever president is elected, he will inherit a world at war in which there is strong opposition.
„In my opinion, it is a strategic interest of the US to oppose aggression and authoritarianism. In recent months and years an axis has formed, as in World War II, it is now of Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. It may not be a legal one, but it is a formally existing axis. They were united by anti-Americanism and anti-Western sentiment. On the other hand, this axis is not homogeneous, and I would exclude China from it. It is the only one of these four that is integrated into the world economy. It is believed that the next US administration could have two approaches – to search with which of the four entities to conduct politics or to have a global approach against the whole axis", Neinski said.
About the U.S. election going in Trump's favor, Neinsky said several things struck her.
„The extremely high voter turnout, which is a record even for the US, which shows a very strong political engagement of Americans and concern about how the country will develop. The picture of voters is changing – Trump is supported by an unexpectedly large portion of Hispanics, and many young people are voting for Trump. The main issues that matter to Americans in this election are the economy, abortion and immigration. For us, the most important topic is the one that probably least engages the Americans, and that is the foreign policy line of the country, Neinski said.
She believes that the whole world is excited about the elections in the USA, because it is crucially important for democracy to be dominant in the world, and the USA is considered to be the country that, to a very large extent, is the guarantor of the democratic development of the world.
