Biden called on Americans for unity after Trump's election victory - 1

US President Joe Biden called on Americans to "cool passions" after Donald Trump's victory in Tuesday's presidential election and tried to calm fellow Democrats who are worried about the Republican's return to the White House, Reuters reported, citing BTA.

"Losing is inevitable. Surrendering is unforgivable," Biden said in a speech in the Rose Garden of the White House in the presence of his staff, disappointed by the election defeat of Vice President Kamala Harris. "One defeat does not mean we are defeated," Biden pointed out.

In his speech from the White House, the president from the Democratic Party emphasized the need to reduce political tension in the country, noted France Press. This is his first public statement since the announcement of the victory of Trump, who is returning to the White House for a second term.

"You can't love your country only when you win. You cannot love your neighbor only when you are of the same opinion. Something I hope we can do is see each other not as enemies, but as Americans, regardless of who you voted for," he emphasized in his statement from the Rose Garden.

The American electoral system is fair, just and transparent. "She can be trusted whether you lose or win," pointed out Biden, adding that "in a democracy, the will of the people always prevails."

"We lost this battle. The America of your dreams is calling you to stand up," he continued. "America perseveres. We'll get through it, but we have to stay engaged," reminded Biden.

Some Democrats blame him for Harris' defeat, saying he shouldn't have run. Eighty-one-year-old Biden withdrew from the race in July after a disappointing performance in televised debates with Trump, Reuters recalls.

Meanwhile, the agency notes that Elon Musk, the owner of the "Tesla" company, defined as the richest person in the world and a donor to the Trump campaign, may enter the new American government. Musk was promised a role in the administration of the Republican leader returning to the White House. The same goes for Robert Kennedy Jr., who ran as an independent at the beginning of the campaign.
