The phone conversation between Russian and American President Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump confirms their interest in restoring relations between the countries, writes Newsweek.

The article notes that the renewed contacts between Trump and Putin, apparently, reflect a mutual interest in restoring US-Russian relations, which significantly deteriorated during the conflict in Ukraine. The conversation between the American and Russian leaders took place just two days after Putin held his first direct phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron in almost three years, the publication recalls.

Earlier on Thursday, Putin and Trump held a phone conversation. This was the fourth official conversation in a month and a half and the sixth since the beginning of the year.

Russian President's advisor Yuri Ushakov told reporters that the conversation between the leaders of Russia and the United States lasted almost an hour.

The heads of state discussed the issue of resolving the conflict in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. During the conversation, Putin and Trump drew attention to the possibility of exchanging films promoting traditional values close to the Russian Federation and the US presidential administration.
