US President Donald Trump said he would sign the bill approved by Congress yesterday, providing for tax cuts and spending cuts, at 4 p.m. on Independence Day today - July 4, and invited all members of Congress to attend the ceremony, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

"Together we will celebrate our country's independence and the beginning of its Golden Age", Trump wrote on the social network "Truth Social".

Earlier, the White House announced that the signing ceremony of the law would be at 5 p.m. local time.

Meanwhile, more than 130 retired diplomats and other former senior US officials have published an open letter criticizing a planned overhaul that would cut thousands of jobs.

"We strongly condemn Secretary of State Marco Rubio's announced decision to implement sweeping staff cuts and reorganization of the US Department of State," the letter said.

Among the signatories are dozens of former ambassadors and senior officials, including Susan Rice, who was President Barack Obama's national security adviser.

In late May, the Trump administration notified Congress of its plans to overhaul the diplomatic corps, which could cut thousands of jobs, including hundreds of members of the elite diplomatic service.

Initial plans to send the termination notices last month were suspended after a federal judge on June 13 temporarily blocked the State Department from implementing the reorganization plan.

Meanwhile, Trump said the White House wants people in the Gaza Strip to be safe.

The US president said he would likely start sending letters to countries today informing them of the tariffs they would face on imports to the US.

Trump said he expected to sign "two other deals" in addition to the trade agreement announced on Wednesday with Vietnam. But he added that he would send letters to most other countries to let them know what percentage of tariffs they would face.

The Trump administration has called for "urgent consultations" its top diplomat in Colombia, following recent comments by the Colombian president that questioned the US position on an alleged plan to remove him from office, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

The US State Department said today that the US chargé d'affaires at the embassy in Bogota, John McNamara, will be returned to Washington "following unfounded and reprehensible allegations from the highest levels of the Colombian government".

Colombian President Gustavo Petro responded in kind by recalling his country's ambassador to Washington for consultations. He said he wanted to speak with Ambassador Daniel Garcia Pena about progress on Colombian priorities for bilateral relations.

US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said in a statement that the administration would "take other steps to express our deep concern about the current state of our bilateral relationship". The statement, however, did not specify the reasons for the diplomat's recall.

This week, the Colombian president has been battling apparent efforts by current and former members of his administration to remove him from office, the AP recalls.

On Tuesday, Colombia's Attorney General's Office said it had opened an investigation into an alleged conspiracy organized by Petro's former foreign minister, Alvaro Leyva.

It is believed that Leyva may have approached several US lawmakers with a request to put international pressure on Petro.

Yesterday, the Colombian president wrote on the social network "Ex" that there had been an attempted coup and called on the US justice system to investigate it.
