Trump said he was ready to meet with Tehran representatives, "if necessary", in case Iran wants to talk to the US, BTA reported.
"Iran wants to talk and I think they want to talk to me, it's time for them to do so," Trump told reporters at Andrews military base before leaving for Iowa, where he will participate in a rally marking the 250th anniversary of the declaration of American independence on July 4.
"We don't want to harm them. We want to allow them to be a country again," the US president said.
Saudi Arabia's Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman met with the US president at the White House to discuss de-escalating tensions with Iran, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing the "Fox News" television channel.
During the talks, the issue of resuming negotiations on Iran's nuclear program was raised. The prospect of ending hostilities in the Gaza Strip and releasing the hostages from "Hamas" was also discussed, TASS notes.
The purpose of the secret meeting was not related to normalizing Riyadh's relations with Israel, but the two sides also discussed the necessary steps for this.
After his meeting with Trump, the Saudi Defense Minister held a telephone conversation with the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Army, the "Askios" publication reported on the "Ex" social network.
