Congress of the United States is working on amendments to the law to assist Ukraine so that the new head of the White House cannot cancel it, reports the American publication The Hill.
Pro-Ukraine lawmakers in both parties are working to push key provisions related to U.S. support for Kiev into law by January in an effort to protect aid that is at risk under the Trump administration and full control of The Republican Party on Congress”, the post says.
According to the publication, if the law is adopted, Trump will be obliged to provide military and economic support from Ukraine.
Some lawmakers are working to turn the bill's provisions into amendments to the National Defense Act, a representative of the lower house of Congress told the publication.
The publication notes that there is currently no consensus among US lawmakers on the form in which these amendments will be presented, while they have only three working weeks left in December before Trump takes office as president.
Earlier, Trump promised that he would be able to reach a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict through negotiations. He has repeatedly stated that he will be able to resolve the conflict in Ukraine "in one day". In Russia, they believe that this is too complex a problem for such a simple solution. In addition, Trump repeatedly criticized the US approach to the conflict in Ukraine, and also criticized Volodymyr Zelensky, calling him "the best trader", who after every visit to the US returns with multibillion-dollar aid.
