„Migrants are a necessity. The fact is that we have a very tense demographic situation. We live in the greatest country in the world, but we are few. In order to develop dynamically and implement all development plans, of course, we need workers. We only welcome them."
This was stated by the official spokesman of the Kremlin, Dmitry Peskov, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
At the same time, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation emphasized that “migrants are not a problem, the problem is illegal migrants”. Peskov made it clear that the Russian authorities intend to actively fight against illegal migration.
„In an environment where the law is violated, prerequisites for crimes of all kinds, be it religious extremism, be it drug addiction and so on, already arise”, Peskov listed the problems to which, in his opinion, illegal migration leads.
