Richard Moore, the head of Britain's MI6 intelligence service, has expressed serious concerns about Russia's increased sabotage activities in Europe and its use of the nuclear threat as a tool of intimidation. In a speech in Paris, Moore described the Russian campaign as "amazingly reckless", emphasizing that it aims to deter support for Ukraine, quoted by News.bg.
"Our security – British, French, European and Transatlantic – will be at risk if we allow Putin to turn Ukraine into a vassal state," he warned. Moore pointed out that if Russia succeeds in Ukraine, it will embolden other global players such as China, North Korea and Iran to step up their aggressive actions.
The British spy has warned of a growing number of Russian sabotage operations, ranging from cyber attacks to arson attacks, which he says threaten the stability of Europe. NATO and Western intelligence agencies also accuse Russia of hostile activities in the Euro-Atlantic area, although Moscow strongly denies any involvement.
Moore stressed that the cost of supporting Ukraine was significant, but that inaction would be "infinitely higher". He stressed that failure in Ukraine could have global consequences, encouraging allies to remain united and resolute in their support.
In conclusion, Moore emphasized the importance of transatlantic security cooperation and expressed confidence in the continuation of joint work between the United Kingdom and the United States. "We worked successfully with the first Trump administration to improve our security, and I look forward to doing so again," he said.
